Martin has worked in the field of legal costs for almost 20 years and in that time has inter alia headed the costs departments of respected law firms. Also a costs lawyer, Martin joined Williams Associates in the summer of 2012. His experience ranges from low-value/high-volume matters to substantial commercial cases with costs claimed into seven figures and includes drafting bills of costs, points of dispute, replies and attending detailed assessment hearings locally and nationally. Martin’s current caseload is varied, including both receiving party and paying party drafting and advocacy. Outside of the office, Martin enjoys playing competitive badminton and spending time with his family.
Samantha studied law and completed the Bar Vocational Course at UWE Bristol before going on to work as a paralegal in civil litigation. Starting in legal costs in October 2008, Samantha has since undertaken a variety of claimant and defendant costs work for two Legal 500 firms and joined Williams Associates in February 2012. She is currently undertaking the ACL’s costs lawyer course of study and in her spare time enjoys going to the gym, reading and relaxing with her family and friends.
Kerry boasts considerable experience in paying party, receiving party and costs audit work gained whilst working within the costs departments of two law firms since 2005. Upon qualifying as a costs lawyer, Kerry joined Williams Associates in March 2011 and her current workload sees her specialising in paying party work on behalf of insurers. Away from work, Kerry is a keen musician and enjoys going to the gym and spending time with friends and family.
Richard worked for three major law firms prior to joining Williams Associates in the spring of 2005. Richard too is a costs lawyer and has over 15 years’ experience in the legal costs profession. Richard has considerable experience of both claimant and defendant perspectives and is one of the firm’s advocates, regularly appearing in court in all four corners of the jurisdiction.
To reflect his achievements and experience, commitment and ability, Richard was made an Associate at Williams Associates in 2013. When not at his desk or in court, Richard is a self-confessed fitness fanatic with a passion for the martial arts; he has recently retired from competing internationally but is now assistant coach and team manager for the Welsh National Tae Kwon Do team.
Having previously worked within in-house costs departments at two national law firms, James joined Williams Associates in the summer of 2002. Since then James has qualified as a costs lawyer and in August 2012 became the first Associate at Williams Associates.
James’ current workload sees him specialise in receiving party work – from drafting bills of costs to costs budgets. Away from work, James enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. A keen sportsman, his passion is rugby union, both as a spectator and player. As well as most sports, James’ other interests include cooking, comedy and music.
Jon is a partner at Williams Associates and a costs lawyer. Involved in the legal costs profession for over 20 years, he has acted for both sides of the litigation fence although his current workload largely consists of paying party work for insurers, loss adjustors and the like and ranges from low-value/high-volume work to more substantial and technical matters involving millions of pounds.
Jon is highly regarded by his colleagues in the profession for his technical knowledge and skills, often approached by competitors for advice and guidance. When he has any spare time, Jon enjoys watching any sport, playing his guitars and good food/wine.
